How to order a custom closet rod
Step 1: Choose the Correct Closet Rod Style
Choose the rod style that works best for your project. The Closet Rod Company offers several rod options, including round closet rods, oval closet rods, capped closet rods, vegan leather closet rods, and threaded closet rods. Round rods are commonly used in professional closet installations and work with matching end supports, center supports, and rod-and-shelf brackets. Oval rods are also widely used in modern closet systems and are designed to coordinate with compatible closet hardware.
When choosing your rod, make sure the rod shape matches the supports or brackets you plan to use. Round rods require round supports, while oval rods require oval-compatible supports.
Step 2: Select a Standard Size Larger Than Your Custom Length
To order a custom-cut closet rod, first choose a standard rod size that is longer than the finished length you need. The custom cut length must be smaller than the size selected on the product page.
For example, if you need a rod cut to 61 1/4 inches, you would not select a smaller rod size. You would choose a rod length longer than 61 1/4 inches, then enter 61 1/4 inches as your requested custom cut length.
The Closet Rod Company offers standard rod sizes to choose from such as
- 17 3/4 inches
- 23 3/4 inches
- 29 3/4 inches
- 35 3/4 inches
- 47 15/16 inches
- 72 inches
- 92 inches
-
96 inches
- Available sizes may vary by product, material, and finish.
- a 17 3/4" closet rod cannot be cut to 61"
- Available sizes may vary by product, material, and finish.
Step 3: Use the Custom Cutting Option
On eligible closet rod listings, use the custom cutting option before adding the item to your cart. The ordering process is:
- Select a rod size larger than your desired finished length.
- a 17 3/4" closet rod cannot be cut to 61"
- Select the material, if the product offers material options.
- Choose the quantity you want cut.
- Toggle “Cut My Closet Rod” to “Yes.”
- Enter your requested custom length.
- Add the item to your cart.
If you need several different custom lengths, repeat the process for each measurement before checking out.
Step 4: Add the Proper Supports
Closet rods do not automatically include supports. End supports, center supports, and brackets are sold separately, so be sure to add the correct hardware for your installation.
Center supports are recommended for closet rods that span 4 feet or longer. This helps keep the rod properly supported and reduces the chance of sagging when the rod is loaded with clothing.
For longer closet systems, you may need a combination of end supports and center supports, or rod-and-shelf brackets depending on the design of your closet.
Can Closet Rods Be Cut On Site?
Yes. Closet rods can also be cut on site by a professional installation company, or with a hacksaw then smoothed with sandpaper if icutting without professional equipment.
*Please note: Closet rods that are cut or altered after purchase are not returnable.
Final Measuring Tip
Measure carefully before ordering. Custom closet rods are cut to the length requested, so the best results come from measuring the finished space, deducting for the proper supports, and double-checking the final number before adding the item to your cart.
A properly measured closet rod will fit securely, install more cleanly, and give your closet system a professional finished look.
